Board-certification is a very good measure of the surgeon’s training and experience in the field of plastic surgery. Board-certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery demonstrates a high level of expertise and commitment to integrity and professionalism by the plastic surgeon. Dr. Tiller has been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1987.
The importance of licensure is probably self-evident. Dr. Tiller maintains a current license in good standing in the State of Florida.
Although plastic surgeons do not usually keep a running tally of the number of times they performed a particular procedure, they should readily be able to describe their specific level of expertise and years of performing a particular procedure.
Dr. Tiller performs all of his procedures at West Florida Hospital and Medical Center and West Florida Ambulatory Surgery Center, Pensacola, Florida.
There are generally three different types of anesthesia that are used for the procedures performed: local, local with sedation (twilight) and general. The type of anesthesia depends on the surgery being performed, the patient’s general health and possibly the patient’s preference. Dr. Tiller discusses the types of anesthesia with the patient on an individual basis. Only anesthesiologists (physicians with specialty training in anesthesia) deliver anesthesia in Dr. Tiller’s procedures.
In Dr. Tiller’s practice, a fee for a particular procedure is all-inclusive, but that fee is itemized into separate amounts: pre-op visits, office surgical fee, hospital fee, implants and follow-up office visits. The fee does not include any prescription medications, compression garments, home nursing care or any supplies the patient may need at home after surgery. Also, if additional surgery is required to revise or improve the results of a surgery, there may be additional costs such as the hospital fee. These additional costs are usually minimal, but cannot always be predicted. It is a good idea to discuss with Dr. Tiller or any plastic surgeon the possibility of unforeseen expenses. Insurance usually is not available to cover costs of cosmetic surgery procedures.
